Sandi Kuaihelani Stevens was born on the Island of Oahu in the 60's. Being from a traditional Hawaiian family, Sandi learned to dance the hula at a very young age. She remembers the training to be very rigorous, but soon learn to love the graceful dance that was past down from her mother's mothers. Growing up in Hawaii brought her many opportunities to dance the hula. The ohana (family) would often gather for weekend luaus to enjoy plenty of food, Hawaiian music and dance. She treasures these special memories of her family fun and desires to pass on the "aloha" as new memories are created.
In 1991 Sandi began working as a flight attendant and was quickly transfered to Fort Lauderdale. She had no idea that she would soon meet her future husband and start her own ohana right there in South Florida. Though many trips were made back to Hawaii, Sandi would still deeply miss her island home. In 1998 she started a hula school and her 5 year old daughter, Emma Kuaihelani, was her first student. The Hawaiian tradition had re-bloomed and it seemed with every week she would meet a new Hawaiian in South Florida. Before long they started to gather for weekend luaus with plenty of food, Hawaiian music and dance.
Since the start of Ohana Arts Inc. in 2000, we have been blessed to have met many very talented Polynesian friends and entertainers, right here in South Florida. We have put together many great shows and educational events and have improved with each one. The desire to pass on the "aloha" and to create awesome memories is still strong. We hope you will consider Ohana Arts for your next special occasion.
