Dr. Namazikhah received his DMD degree from the National University of Iran. He was student representative and received leadership awards as well as the orthodontic scholarship award. He later joined the Iranian Air force and served as lieutenant captain for two years. He started teaching as full time associate professor in the restorative department at the National University of Iran.
Dr. Namazikhah was accepted in the Endodontics program at USC where he completed his specialty program and received certification in Endodontics. He continued with his education and received a M.S. in Medical Education at the USC School of Medicine. In 1980 he taught at USC as a Clinical Assistant Professor leading to his position as director of the Endodontic Clinic, Chairman of Undergrad Endodontic program, Professor and Chairman of Endodontic Department and Director of Advanced Endodontic program. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the USC Dental Associates. Dr. Namazikhah is currently serving as the President of The Los Angeles Dental Society, a component of the California and American Dental Associations.
The word "endodontic" comes from two Greek words meaning “inside” and “tooth.” Endodontics is the science of treating problems that involve the tissue inside the tooth. This internal tissue, blood vessels and connective tissue is called the “pulp.” When this tissue or the tissue surrounding the tooth root is diseased or damaged due to trauma, endodontic treatment can save the tooth.
Endodontists are experts at diagnosing and relieving oral and facial pain. They are dental specialists who have completed dental school and have studied for up to an additional three years in an accredited advanced specialty education program in endodontics. Because they are specialists, they limit their practices to endodontics. They perform routine as well as difficult and very complex endodontic procedures, including endodontic surgery and the treatment of traumatic dental injuries.
